Before an embryo can implant, it must break out of its outer shell. A dedicated FDA-approved laser makes a tiny, precise opening to assist this natural hatching in selected cases.

Every embryo is surrounded by an outer protective covering called the zona pellucida. To implant, the embryo must break out of this shell, come out of it, and establish direct contact with the endometrium — a process called embryo hatching.
Laser-Assisted Hatching (LAH) uses a dedicated, FDA-approved laser to make a small opening in the zona pellucida, assisting the embryo's natural hatching just before implantation. It is performed entirely in the IVF lab on the embryo, with no procedure on the patient.

LAH is particularly considered in the following situations.
By easing hatching, LAH can support implantation in suitable cases.
A quick, precise lab step on the day of transfer — nothing is done to the patient.
LAH is carried out in the IVF lab on the day of embryo transfer, on day 3 or day 5 (blastocyst) embryos as indicated.
A site on the zona pellucida is chosen away from the embryo's genetic material to keep the embryo safe.
A dedicated FDA-approved laser, computer-guided to micrometre accuracy, makes a small opening using minimum energy.
The embryo is then transferred into the uterus by the standard IVF procedure, with a pregnancy test about two weeks later.
Fertility expert Dr. Suman Singh explains laser-assisted hatching — what it is, who it is for, and its benefits and considerations.
Air purity 10× cleaner than the international Class 10,000 standard — protecting your embryos at every moment.
An in-house team of experienced embryologists performs every micro-manipulation with precision.
30,000+ pregnancies since 1998 and the National Fertility Award six times (2019–2026).
Every fertility journey is unique. Laser Hatching success rates depend on several medical and lifestyle factors.
Factors affecting success
LAH does not guarantee pregnancy; success also depends on embryo quality and uterine receptivity. It is most useful when the zona is a likely barrier.

LAH is safe in expert hands; here is what to keep in mind.
LAH requires expensive, dedicated equipment and highly skilled embryologists.
There is an uncommon chance of embryo damage, or of monozygotic (identical) twinning.
LAH adds a small extra cost to the IVF cycle.
LAH can improve implantation chances but does not guarantee pregnancy.

LAH is generally safe for all embryo types, including self & donor embryos, and day 2–3 & day 5 (blastocyst) embryos, as long as they are of good quality and suitable for implantation.
Current research and clinical experience suggest that LAH does not increase the risk of birth defects or congenital abnormalities.
It typically takes only a few minutes per embryo and is done on the same day as the embryo transfer.
Yes. LAH can be performed on both day-3 and day-5 (blastocyst) embryos, depending on the clinical indication.
No special preparation is needed by the patient, as the procedure is performed entirely in the lab on the embryos.
Yes. LAH is often used alongside advanced techniques such as ICSI and PGT-A to support implantation.
No. While LAH can potentially improve implantation chances, it does not guarantee pregnancy. Success also depends on embryo quality and uterine receptivity.
