A simple, less invasive and more affordable fertility treatment. At the time of ovulation, specially prepared sperm is placed directly into the uterus to improve the chance of conception.

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is the procedure of placing a prime lot of specially prepared sperm inside the uterus at the time of ovulation (egg release). By positioning sperm directly within the uterus, close to the openings of the fallopian tubes, IUI bypasses the cervical barriers and improves the chance of conception.
IUI is one of the most commonly recommended first-line fertility treatments. It is simple, less invasive and less expensive than IVF, and is often suggested for couples with mild male-factor infertility, cervical factors, ovulation issues or unexplained infertility before more advanced treatment is considered.

Your specialist may suggest IUI in any of the following situations, after a proper evaluation.
For the right couple, IUI is an easy and sensible first step.
Timed to your own natural ovulation, without stimulation medicines.
With tablets and/or injections to encourage ovulation and improve egg availability.
Using screened donor sperm, for example in cases of azoospermia or for single women.
A straightforward, same-day procedure with careful timing.
Where needed, tablets and/or injections are used to get better quality follicles. Transvaginal ultrasound tracks the developing follicles.
An hCG injection triggers final egg maturation and ovulation, so the timing of insemination is precise.
On the day, the semen sample is washed in the lab to separate the best motile sperms and remove dead sperms and debris.
Using a self-retaining speculum and aseptic precautions, the prepared sperm is gently injected into the uterus through a thin, soft cannula.
You rest for about ten minutes and resume normal activities. A pregnancy test follows about two weeks later.
Dr. Falguni Bavishi explains what IUI is, who it suits and how it works — so you can take your next step with clarity and confidence.
An in-house team of experienced embryologists performs every micro-manipulation with precision.
30,000+ pregnancies since 1998 and the National Fertility Award six times (2019–2026).
Tailor-made protocols and add-on techniques recommended only when they genuinely help you.
Every fertility journey is unique. IUI success rates depend on several medical and lifestyle factors.
Factors affecting success
On average, the success rate for IUI is about 10–20% per cycle, and more than one cycle is often needed. Rates vary with age and diagnosis.

IUI is gentle and safe, but it is important to understand what it can and cannot do.
IUI has a lower success chance per cycle than higher-technology ART such as IVF.
Fertilisation happens inside the body, so it cannot be seen or guaranteed, and embryo quality cannot be assessed.
IUI requires a reasonable number of motile sperm to be effective.
There is an uncommon risk of mild infection or spotting.
Healthy habits support your treatment; your specialist will personalise this guidance.

The IUI visit itself typically takes about 1 to 2 hours from start to finish; the insemination takes only a few minutes. The complete treatment — from cycle monitoring to your pregnancy test — takes around one month.
In IUI, prepared sperm is placed into the uterus near the time of ovulation — suitable for mild male-factor or cervical issues. In IVF, eggs are retrieved and fertilised in the laboratory and the embryo is transferred — used for more complex cases such as blocked tubes or severe male infertility.
IUI is usually not painful. Most women experience only mild discomfort.
Typically 3 to 4 cycles of IUI are suggested, up to a maximum of 6, but your doctor will tailor the advice based on your specific situation.
Yes. There are generally no specific restrictions against sexual activity following the procedure.
Yes, you can travel after IUI, as the procedure does not require prolonged rest.
Stress can affect fertility by influencing hormone levels. Relaxation techniques, yoga, meditation and counselling can help.
Your doctor may recommend repeating the procedure, adjusting medication, or moving to IVF, based on your medical history.
