What is ICSI
What is ICSI?
ICSI — Intra (inside), Cytoplasmic (the cytoplasm of the egg), Sperm (the male gamete), Injection — is a specialised advance within IVF. Where conventional IVF mixes eggs and sperm together and lets fertilisation happen on its own, ICSI injects a single selected sperm directly into each mature egg under microscopic guidance.
Because only one healthy sperm is needed to fertilise one egg, ICSI is the game-changer for male-factor infertility and for couples who have had fertilisation failure before. Indications
Who needs ICSI?
Your specialist may recommend ICSI in any of the following situations.
Low sperm concentration, poor motility or poor morphology
Very limited quantity of sperm, or frozen sperm
Sperm recovered surgically from the testis or epididymis

Pre-treatment Evaluation
Before starting, both partners are thoroughly evaluated to optimise the outcome — blood tests for husband & wife, semen test, 3D sonography, and if needed, specialised tests like hysteroscopy.

Ovarian Stimulation
After your period, a customised dose of gonadotropin hormones (FSH/HMG) is given as a small daily injection for about 7–12 days to grow multiple mature eggs, with regular ultrasound monitoring. A precise 'trigger' injection then matures the eggs for retrieval.

Egg Retrieval
34–36 hours after the trigger, eggs are retrieved through the vagina under short sedation — no cut, no stitch, and you go home in about 2 hours. The same day, the best sperm are selected for injection.

Microinjection
A skilled embryologist injects a single healthy sperm directly into the cytoplasm of each mature egg under high magnification, in our Class 1000 IVF lab. Fertilisation is checked 12–18 hours later.

Embryo Culture & Transfer
Embryos are grown in next-generation humid incubators that mimic the body. Two to six days later, the best-quality embryo(s) are either gently transferred into the uterus or electively frozen, customised to your condition & response. Surplus embryos can be frozen.

Pregnancy Test
About 12–19 days after embryo transfer, a Beta-HCG blood test confirms pregnancy. From egg formation to transfer, the active treatment usually takes just 12–19 days.
