What is Egg Freezing?
Egg freezing, or oocyte cryopreservation, is the collection and freezing of a woman's eggs so they can be used to attempt a pregnancy in the future. Because egg quality declines with age, freezing eggs while younger preserves a better chance for later.
Women freeze eggs for medical reasons — such as before cancer treatment — or for personal reasons, to give themselves time before starting a family. When she is ready, the eggs are thawed, fertilised by ICSI, and the resulting embryos are transferred.

Egg Freezing — your questions answered
Earlier is better — ideally in your late twenties to early thirties — because egg quality and quantity decline with age. Freezing younger eggs gives the best future chance.
It varies with age, but more eggs improve the odds. After assessing your reserve, your specialist will advise a target number, sometimes over more than one cycle.
The injections cause minimal discomfort and egg retrieval is done under sedation, so it is not painful. Mild bloating afterwards settles quickly.
They are thawed, fertilised with sperm by ICSI, and the resulting embryos are transferred to the uterus in an IVF cycle.
Vitrification gives high egg-survival rates, though not every egg survives or fertilises — which is why the number frozen matters.
