What is 5D or 7D ultrasound?
Medically, there are only 2D, 3D and 4D ultrasounds. The so-called "5D" or "7D" scans are simply 3D/4D ultrasounds with enhanced software filters, colour effects or smoother rendering — not a newer or superior technology.
They do not provide any additional medical information or diagnostic advantage. The labels are largely marketing terms meant to make the experience sound more advanced than it truly is. At Bavishi Fertility & Birthing we focus on accurate, high-quality 3D/4D imaging interpreted by fetal medicine specialists — not gimmicks.
3D/4D Sonography — your questions answered
Yes. It uses the same harmless sound-wave technology as a standard 2D scan, with no radiation involved, and is performed by trained professionals.
No fasting is required. You can eat normally — a light meal beforehand is fine.
Around 24–34 weeks usually gives the clearest views of your baby's face. Your doctor may also advise scans at other stages for medical assessment.
Absolutely. Partners and close family are welcome to share the experience and watch your baby on the screen.
The sonographer may ask you to change position or take a short walk, or suggest rescheduling — babies move, and we want the best possible images.
